Press On

To every woman who has pressed past potential and kicked down the door to purpose, Happy International Women's Day! I could name many women who have influenced me in business with a few of my favorites being J.K. Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter; Oprah, of course, and a friend of mine who has a very successful business that produces toilet paper made of bamboo. She chooses to remain anonymous, so I won't mention her name here. These women maximized their potential and tapped into purpose all while breaking through the barriers that were set in place to stop or stagnate them. Another favorite whose story encourages and inspires me is that of Ruell Cone, first Black Sales Director and millionaire for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Ruell was a single mom and music teacher when she was first introduced to the idea of owning her own business in an industry that we depend on to enhance and preserve our natural beauty. She coupled the Mary Kay business model along her potential to be an entrepreneur and landed in her purpose. I'm most inspired by her because I'm a huge fan of the Mary Kay skin care system and because Ruell Cone is my great aunt. She is the first millionaire on either side of my family; my goal is to very soon be the next.

A good friend of mine texted me early this morning and his text read, 'If we are broke, we are not truly operating in our purpose.' Think about that for a minute. Don't think it's true? Read, study and meditate on the book of Proverbs with extra emphasis on the last chapter. Just as with the above mentioned women, God placed within each of us the ability to create wealth. It's His way of making good on one of His first covenants that He made with mankind. As my friend and I continued to text each other, one of my replies read, 'He (God) never said it (purpose) would be easy.' His responding message was, 'Whew!'

When you think of your purpose, whatever it is, does it make you respond like my friend did? I know that I do daily. Some days I want to tap out but then I remember that the things that God has purposed me to do has very little to do with me but everything to do with the people He needs to touch through me, in whatever way that may be. So the next time that you're wallowing in doubt and self pity and feeling like you just can't do it, I encourage you to Google a couple of ladies whom you greatly admire and read their success stories. I promise you that you'll find that the obstacles that they had to overcome may even be bigger than the ones that you are up against. Don't allow fear and procrastination to stagnate you and rob you of your destiny. Keep pushing and be encouraged.
