One of God's greatest gifts to His daughters is the blessing of children. For almost a year, we carry them in our wombs with anticipation of birthing out our bundles of joy. When the day finally comes and we are able to see and feel those tiny little hands and feet; the months of discomfort, sickness and irritability seem like a thing of the distant past. The body changes and the birthing pangs prove to be worth every sleepless night and contraction as we hold the tiny little thing that caused such a great fuss for so long. For 28 years, I've been Mom to eight; four girls and four boys. Although they all bare similarities in their features, no two have the exact same personality. Some are more laid back than others. Then there are some who are more disciplined than others. Some are more forgiving and some just choose to go against the grain. Unlike different variations of your smart phone or your vehicle, children don't come with a manual tucked away within them to troubleshoot when they start acting up. And although some days they can challenge our inner gangsta, we cannot pack them up and send them back to the manufacturer in those times when we just don't like them. If you're a new Mom, sorry for the spoiler alert. Don't get discouraged though; the good news is that God left us with a blueprint in His Word and if you follow those instructions, it will build a foundation within both you and your children that will be strong enough to stand the test of times. Scripture tells us that children are a heritage, or blessing, from the Lord and blessed is the man (or woman) whose quiver is full of them. (Psalms 137:3-5) Now I know all days you may not feel blessed, but this is when your faith in God's promises have to kick in and supersede what you feel and see. If God says you're blessed, then that's final. You can't be blessed and cursed at the same time. Likewise, your children, no matter how wayward they are, cannot be blessed and cursed at the same time. If you've trained them to know to the Lord, God promises that His Word will never depart from them and that if they make choices that seem a little suspect, the Word will bring them back. (Proverbs 22:6) So Momma, if you've been crying and toiling over Jr. and losing nights of sleep because he's acting as if he's lost his mind, you don't have to do that anymore. Declare that he is blessed and that He will fulfill His God-given purpose in the earth and go to sleep. No need to worry. No need to fear. When you give God His Word back to Him, He will take it and contend for you. Watch Him snatch Jr. back and use him as a weapon for you, instead of against you. So today, sit back and relax and enjoy this special day that has been set apart for you. Happy Mother's Day, Mommas. God's got you.
