I hate almost nothing more than to visit a website that looks boring, lacks engaging content and looks abandoned. You've seen a few, right? The photos, if there are any, are old and boring; there are no signs of life; you don't know whether to stay and try out your CPR skills or to quickly back out of there before you stumble upon a corpse. I don't know about you but if I enter a site that looks like an abandoned town scene from The Walking Dead, it's highly unlikely that I will visit again. When I decided to create this blogspot, I wanted it to look and feel very inviting so that my readers, customers and clients would want to keep visiting. Allow me to share some simple but very useful tips with you.
1) Write Engaging Content- This sounds so trivial but come on, think about how many blogs or back stories that you've read and within the first paragraph you were completely uninterested. Now think about what it was that turned you off, make a mental note of it and do not, I repeat, do not emulate it. Don't bore your audience with a lot of statistics and information that you've studied; people want to know what you have learned from your experiences so make it personable. Don't be a Perfect Patty; noone wants to hear about how faultless you are.
Be open and honest so that you are relatable.
2) Know Your Audience- Who are you speaking to? Don't try to write an article or a blog that will appeal to a mom who is raising her kids with minimal support and a mom who is a socialite who pays a nanny to do the tough stuff; you're going to lose one, or both of them. Trying to put content into a quick read that will benefit both of these readers will be confusing. If you're confused that means we, you readers, are confused, too. Know who's sitting at your table and feed them something so great that they will come back for more.
3) Use Professional Photos- Your cell phone photos with your cute backgrounds and backdrops look great for posting to Facebook and IG; however, the quality, or lack thereof, of cell phone photos diminishes your website and screams unprofessional. Search for a professional photographer, reach out to them to articulate your vision and keep them booked each month so that you always have polished portraits to keep your site looking amazing. Yes, it costs but it's an investment that says I believe in me and what I have to offer. If you don't believe in you, you can't expect anyone else to.
I love these tips!!!! Not because they were funny, but because it’s the truth! I hope this benefits others like it did for me!!
